Go Go Power Rangers!

Tank treads are pretty much finished already! Only the head left! I didn’t think it’d go by so quickly, but it helps there are so many simple shapes to this guy! I’m already way ahead of schedule on him!

I’m on a roll!

I can’t believe it! Only rigging left to do! I said he’d take longer, but this is the fasted one completed! The Pterodactyl took three days, this guy only took two!

It is finished! The Blue Triceratops is now complete and with its first rig!

Taking another look, the blue in the Triceratops is meant to be darker. So here’s an updated final pic.

That’s four! Good practise…

it becomes easier the more you practice  keep it up!
Looks cool btw, Blue Ranger and Triceratops Zord where always my favorite

Dude super cool! Well done on sticking with this too! Cannot wait to see the end result

Well, I don’t know when this is going to get finished, as my work schedule is ramping up to normality, thus I won’t have so many free days… But it’s better to start and chip away whenever possible. Thus, the Sabertooth Tiger has made its first step - measuring.

Unlike the Triceratops, I think this one actually WILL take longer. Not only does the Tiger have some interestingly placed shapes, but it also has some curves in the body, which isn’t easy when you also need flat sides and thus convincingly have to do both. The model I have will help me greatly, but I also need to consult the footage from the show every now and then.

Fun Fact! The models for the Zords on-screen change, depending on what mode they’re in. Obviously the Megazord is a costume and not a model, but when there are the sequences of them transforming, they can vary from the Zords you see in their intros when summoned. Most notably is the T-Rex who keeps changing arm lengths! The Mastodon’s arms change when going from tank mode into the Megazord mode, as the hands for the Megazord are drastically different. The Triceratops’s tail seems to change size and the base of the tail changes shape, including a blocky protrusion you see when the tail rotates before connecting to the Megazord and yet isn’t present when you see them connect.

My point is, my Zords will vary from the show, no doubt, but the show is also inconsistent because of various models being used for different purposes. With that said, props to the guys who made the models I have because they have to do it all with no stunt-doubles.

All that said, here’s the last bit of progress on the Sabertooth today before sleep. Baby steps with this one. It IS the last one before I assemble the Megazord, so it is important that it gets done! However, beginning this one on the same weekend break as starting and finishing the Triceratops, this project is going full-throttle!

(Triceratops is in view for measuring purposes)

Very slow, but colors have begun to be added, as have the curvatures of the back.

Just a little disclaimer that the Zords might have “final” pictures right now, but those are still subject to change. Once the five original Zords are done and can combine into Megazord, I’ll give them all another once-over and edit anything I feel could be altered to better the Zords individually. Megazord will look his best when the individual Zords are the best they can be. This includes materials, shapes, detail additions and even rigging. I want the Zords to be done in the best way possible because I love the show so much and these guys were a big part of my childhood so I want to pay it proper tribute in the way I’m now able to.

Having said that, I also want to give this group my personal take on them. Not that I’m mixing up anything and stylizing them in a way they’ve never done before. While that is an intriguing thought, that’s not it. I mean there are ways I want to make the best Zords possible, but because I stated before that the models differ from each other depending on their mode, that’s hard to get things exactly accurate. Therefore, I hope by the time I’m finished entirely, I’ll have used the designs of each Zord that I like the best from each iteration. Taking the best parts of every model to put them into one.

Now obviously, I’m not gonna be able to make them Hollywood budget quality. … Yet. But still, to the best of my abilities, I want to make this absolutely amazing. So, we’ll use these “final” picture cards sort of like a before/after, if the changes are that drastic.

Just putting it out there that while these are technically “finished”, I may go back and fiddle. Because I’m the kind of person who fiddles a lot with stuff.

In other news, I’m slowly but surely figuring out the shape of the Tiger.

Chipping out the shoulders. I’m sure once thie main body is done, the rest will be very fast.

More body work and the neck has been added. The Sabertooth Tiger has one very interesting shape. Especially since it has to tuck in its legs and such. I’m starting to doubt it’ll get done before the 16th. But that’s just an arbitrary deadline with no consequence. I just wanted to be able to say I made the Megazord in a month.

If I can at least finish this before the end of February, then it’ll still be good. After all, the main 5 within a month and a half? I’d call that impressive.

Having to stop here for today because work calls once again. But the head has begun and despite being a little wonky with its angles, I’m trying my best to make it look good. The main body is still not done, but I think that may be done in segments as I add the other pieces. The front is pretty much ready, so I’ll be adding the arms, soon. After all, I have to be sure that everything lines up with the head when the Tiger becomes the right leg of the Megazord. The back end can be sorted as I design the back legs. Then I just need the tail and it should be good.

Came back to this after work, as I had some ideas. The Sabertooth Tiger’s head is complete and the beginnings of the front legs have begun! With a full weekend ahead of me, I’ll be able to get more done, I’m sure. Some parts, like the tail, shouldn’t take long to do. The main issue is getting the nooks and crannies of the main body on the undercarriage. I’ll do my darnedest to get it right, though!

Front legs done! Also for measuring purposes, I moved the Tiger to be in Megazord position. Kinda like how I did the Mastodon at first.

Side decals and the tail are done! Just the rear legs and the undercarriage cleanup!

I’ve done it. I can’t believe this, but I’ve done it! Sabertooth Tiger COMPLETE! That’s all 5 of the original Zords within 1 month!!

Now all that’s left is to stick 'em together for the Megazord!
