Robotic Wildlife

WIP for CGBoost challenge : Robotic Wildlife. I’m not exactly sure myself what this is, lol. Basically a hybrid of Glaucus atlanticus for the body (and overall shape/silhouette), the wings are from flying fish (originally intended like butterfly, btw) and might looked more like bird now. Thinking of changing the tail section later.

The movement pattern would be rather slow, gliding low near the sea floor as aquatic robot, or maybe flying/gliding in mid-air as avian version with occasional flapping, still exploring some options that wouldn’t be too hard to accomplish. Still need to refine and complete the robot with some exposed mechanic parts/greebles, panel on the wings, also planned to have running lights on some parts.

Final animation, trying to imitate deep sea camera shots :

Some screenshots from Blender :

Wanted to do more dynamic animation and whatnot but ended up not realized due to time and skill constraint. Rendered with Cycles, text overlay with Inkscape, compositing and postpro with DaVinci Resolve. Texture from texture sites, anchor from Sketchfab.
