Help with building neuron field

I have to make a weird scene including a neuron field with fly through, something like this: https://www.youtube.com/shorts/cErczMVizfU.

Is there a way to use an array modifier or geometry nodes to duplicate a sculpted object in a random way, or do I have to manually duplicate and arrange the scene to what I want? Also, any idea on how to make the lights? I read somewhere that someone could just use a point light and a modifier to follow a path, but I’m worried that won’t work with my object because I used snake hook to make my neuron, rather than use curves/beziers. Sorry for so many questions, any advice is appreciated!

How do you use the path to control the speed of the light movement? Is there a way to have it reverse the path back where it came from using this technique?

you can change the speed in particle settings of the plane
